12th XeSkouriaZo: A Mountain Running Race to Save Skouries

Organization

The Association of Women of Megali Panagia organizes every year since 2013 the mountain running race “Xeskouriazo” on Mountain Kakavos, in Megali Panagia, Halkidiki. The race is dedicated to the fight against gold-copper mining that threatens the mountain, the waters, the lives of the residents of Halkidiki, and the wider area. Our goal is to promote trail running, highlight the natural beauty, and protect the environment as a source of life and joy for everyone, now and forever.

Race Information

On Sunday, October 5, 2025, we will have our 12th meeting at the square of Megali Panagia to run together, in three different distances (5km, 15km, 25km).

Registrations for the 12th XeSkouriaZo Mountain Running Race have begun!

Traditional Feast

After the race, refreshments will be offered to the participants and at the same time, a traditional celebration with live music will take place in Chorostasi Square.

ITRA – UTMB

The organization is a member of the World Mountain Running Federation Running (ITRA) while the 25km race has been included in both the ITRA (1 – ITRA Point) and UTMB Index rankings. The 15km race is also a recognized race by ITRA and is included in its scoring system. Both races are part of the ITRA National League 2025. At the same time, the established 5km Road Race around the village of Megali Panagia will also take place on the same day.

Free Accommodation Possibility

There is the possibility of accommodation in 10-person rooms next to the Shrine of the Holy Pilgrimage of Megali Panagia (toilets & showers available). Accommodation is free of charge. The residents must bring their own sheets, sleeping bags, or blankets and contact the organizers at least 10 days before the race date on the following phone numbers: +306942678818 Additionally, there is an option for free camping in the same area, just 1 km outside of Megali Panagia (toilets available). Alternatively, accommodation in hotels in the wider area is suggested.
